The Association of Towns’ Associate Counsel, Sarah Brancatella, is presenting a free training seminar on ethics in the Town of Richmond on Monday, September 30.
Whether you’re a seasoned town official or were recently elected or appointed, knowing and understanding municipal ethics will help maintain integrity and public confidence in town government, and also help the town avoid litigation. This seminar will review what the law says about ethics and public officials, discuss tools towns can use to address ethics issues, and explain how to analyze situations to ensure compliance with the law. Covered topics include conflicts of interest in contracts, conflicts of interest under common law, nepotism and members of the same family working for the town, when a person can hold more than one office, gifts, and what constitutes impermissible bias.
No registration is required. All municipal officials and employees are invited to attend. This course is eligible for one Certified Town Official credit in the Attorney/Legal Issues area. Please contact The Association of Towns at (518) 465-7933 with any questions or concerns.
